Integrated communications agency Bridgers has been reappointed as the official media partner for UpStart 2026, the flagship national business model competition run by the Entrepreneurship Cell at IIT Kanpur. The mandate marks the second consecutive year of the association and puts Bridgers in charge of media relations, narrative strategy and multi-channel outreach for participating startups.
Inside the mandate
UpStart 2026 will move early-stage ventures through screening rounds, structured brainstorming sessions and face-to-face mentoring. National pitching rounds are scheduled across four cities: Delhi on October 10, Bangalore and Hyderabad on October 24, and Mumbai on December 5, 2026.
Teams shortlisted from the regional rounds will enter one-on-one mentorship sessions before the UpStart Finale, which will be held as part of E-Summit 2026 at the IIT Kanpur campus.
Bridgers will handle a broad communications remit, including:
- Media relations and strategic narrative development for the competition
- Digital and conventional media engagement across national and regional outlets
- Media interactions for finalists and reputation management for the property
- Visibility initiatives aimed at the startup and venture capital ecosystem
Why a second-year renewal stands out
In the agency business, repeat mandates are a meaningful signal. They usually indicate that the client-side team sees consistent value and wants continuity rather than a fresh onboarding cycle. For Bridgers, the renewed IIT Kanpur E-Cell partnership strengthens its positioning in the early-stage startup ecosystem. For the competition, it brings a professional communications layer to founders who may have strong technical ideas but limited media exposure.
Kumar Anubhav, Founder of Bridgers, said the collaboration reinforces the agency’s ‘long term commitment to the Indian startup ecosystem’ and described UpStart’s approach as a mentorship-driven framework that prepares founders for institutional scale.
Gunjan, Manager-Events, Entrepreneurship Cell at IIT Kanpur, added that the partnership is intended to ensure participating founders’ ‘accomplishments and real-world solutions’ receive national media attention.
What marketers can take away
For marketing students and professionals, the deal is a reminder that startup visibility is a discipline, not an afterthought. Early-stage teams often focus on product and pitch, but a clear narrative can change how mentors, investors and media evaluate the same set of facts.
A simple pre-pitch communication check can help:
- Can you explain the problem and solution in one sentence?
- Is the story tailored to each audience: media, investor, mentor or customer?
- Are founders visible around the milestones that matter to their sector?
- Can regional rounds be used to test messaging before the finale?
Student-led entrepreneurship cells have become an important feeder into India’s startup pipeline, and competitions such as UpStart increasingly function as visibility platforms as much as mentoring or funding gateways. A structured media mandate can turn a campus event into a national startup story, which is exactly what Bridgers and E-Cell IIT Kanpur are attempting to do for 2026.
