Dentsu India has named Santosh Mishra as Managing Partner – Client Management, reinforcing its senior client leadership as the network sharpens its focus on integrated solutions.

Mishra will report to Ajay Gupte, Chief Operating Officer, South Asia, dentsu, and will work closely with him on key client relationships across the network, MediaNews4U reported.

What the role covers

The brief is explicitly cross-disciplinary. Mishra is expected to bring together teams and expertise from media, creativity, data and technology, and to connect dentsu’s Marketing, Technology and Consulting capabilities around client challenges.

Rather than representing one service line, the role is designed to coordinate the network’s varied specialists so clients receive measurable business outcomes. The appointment aligns with dentsu’s “Innovating to Impact” vision and its integration agenda.

Why a client leadership role matters now

Agency conversations are shifting. Clients are less likely to begin with a ready-made channel plan and more likely to open with a business problem. That changes what a senior agency lead needs to do.

Gupte made the shift explicit. “The starting point is the business problem, not the discipline that will solve it,” he said in the announcement.

For marketers, this means the client lead has to earn the right to challenge the brief, pull the correct specialists into the room and keep everyone accountable to an outcome. It is a coordination job as much as a commercial one.

From an agency operations standpoint, that is hard to do when each specialism runs its own client conversation. A single senior owner can reduce internal competition and make the integrated pitch the default rather than the exception.

The new leader’s background

Mishra brings over 18 years of experience across digital media, marketing and client leadership. He joins from Wavemaker, where he most recently served as Managing Partner – Digital, and has previously held senior roles at iProspect.

His background in leading complex client mandates is expected to support dentsu’s effort to bring together expertise across its network in response to changing client requirements.

His experience covers digital strategy, media planning, client solutions and emerging media. Mishra said he was excited to rejoin dentsu and to use fresh perspectives from his recent journey to elevate client solutions and accelerate growth across the network.

What the move signals

The appointment does not introduce a new service line; it activates existing capabilities under one relationship owner. That is a meaningful operating choice: instead of each specialism owning a separate client conversation, integration becomes the default.

For marketing students and mid-career professionals, the profile is also a useful signal. Senior agency roles are increasingly rewarding people who can span digital, media and client leadership rather than a single channel specialism.

Questions to ask at your next agency review

  • Does your agency lead start with the business problem or the channel plan?
  • Which integrated capabilities — media, creative, data, tech, consulting — does the team actually connect?
  • How will shared measurement and accountability work across specialisms?

Equally, avoid judging an integrated client lead through a single-specialism lens. The role only works when it can challenge the brief and coordinate multiple capabilities.
