Stagwell has consolidated its media, commerce, data and AI capabilities into one global brand: Stagwell Media. Built on the foundation of Assembly, the new agency network launches with a footprint spanning more than 50 markets and over 2,300 employees, with Alap Ghosh named CEO for India.
The launch is Stagwell’s answer to a fragmented media landscape where AI-powered systems increasingly shape how consumers discover, evaluate and act on brands. Instead of running media planning, performance marketing and commerce as disconnected specialist functions, Stagwell Media pitches a unified operating model built around the customer.
One agency, one operating model
The move turns Assembly’s performance-marketing heritage into a broader integrated offer, powered by Stagwell’s agentic technology platform, Machine OS. Mark Penn, Chairman and CEO of Stagwell, is direct about the ambition: “The traditional media agency model wasn’t built for the future of media. Stagwell Media is.”
He added that combining technology, deep media expertise and agility would help brands adapt faster, reach audiences more effectively and unlock growth. Slavi Samardzija, Global Chair of Media & Commerce at Stagwell, framed the pitch around the need for brands to move faster, connect every touchpoint and turn complexity into stronger performance.
The India equation
Ghosh brings more than 25 years across the digital ecosystem to the India operation. He joined Assembly in July 2025 from Google India, where he served as Head of Data and Technology Partnerships, working on marketing technology and digital innovation for enterprise clients. His earlier career includes leadership roles at Jellyfish, building a data consultancy, and work across advertising and programmatic platforms.
Globally, Liz Rutgersson leads Stagwell Media as CEO and continues to oversee US operations. The regional set-up includes Connie Chan as APAC CEO, Bridget Hopkins for Europe, Ravi Rao for MENA, and Kacper Klos as Global CEO of Digital Commerce, based in Poland.
The stack behind the model
Stagwell Media will run on Machine OS alongside proprietary solutions from The Marketing Cloud and Stagwell Media Platform, including The Media Machine, Stagwell Search+ and Stagwell Curate. It will also work closely with businesses across Stagwell’s Media & Commerce segment: Crispin, GALE, Goodstuff, Locaria and Stagwell Owned Media. Launch clients include Lenovo, DP World, Mastercard and P&G.
What it means for marketers
- An integrated structure, not a patchwork: media, commerce, data and technology sit inside one connected operating model.
- Agentic AI as the planning layer: Machine OS is positioned as the system that helps teams respond more quickly to changing consumer behaviour.
- Outcomes over hours: Stagwell says commercial models will align with clients’ evolving business requirements, a signal of where agency pricing is heading.
The questions to ask
The launch lands amid a broader restructuring of agency networks around AI, commerce and integrated data. For marketers evaluating any “AI-first” agency pitch, the real test is whether the platform actually orchestrates the work.
Ask which system runs planning and buying, who owns the data layer, and how media investment is tied to measurable commerce outcomes. An integrated pitch is only as strong as the workflow behind it — that is the gap Stagwell Media now has to close.
