AB InBev India is set for a change at the top of its marketing function. Vineet Sharma has stepped down as Vice President of Marketing and Trade Marketing after more than ten years with the brewer, he announced in a LinkedIn post. The move closes a long chapter for one of India’s most recognisable beer portfolios.
A decade of brand and trade leadership
Sharma described the departure as closing “one of the most defining chapters” of his professional journey. At AB InBev India, his leadership roles spanned marketing and trade marketing, and his remit included brand strategy, integrated campaigns, portfolio development, marketing budgets and trade activations.
He worked on the growth of the company’s global and local brands, with the Budweiser brand among his key responsibilities. That is a high-stakes mandate: Budweiser is the brewer’s flagship global label, and its India marketing leadership is closely tied to brand campaigns and trade execution.
Why the transition matters
For marketing professionals, this is more than a personnel note. Senior leadership exits at this level are watched because they can precede a change in brand direction, agency relationships or campaign strategy. When a decade-long brand steward leaves, the next appointment often signals the parent company’s next growth thesis.
Sharma’s career path is also a useful case study for marketers who want business-facing roles:
- He began in sales and distribution at ITC, then moved into assistant brand manager roles for Fiama Di Wills Men and Vivel Soaps.
- He managed Dabur International’s Vatika hair care portfolio across the Middle East and North Africa.
- At Unilever, he was global assistant brand manager for Pond’s Men, handling brand management across Southeast Asia and South Asia.
- At AB InBev India, he rose into marketing and trade marketing leadership, including oversight of Budweiser.
That arc — from distribution to regional brand management and finally into integrated marketing and trade leadership — reflects the kind of broad operational experience many business-focused marketing roles now demand. For agency and media partners, a new VP may lead to fresh briefs, roster reviews or a different campaign calendar.
What to watch next
The announcement did not name a successor. Sharma said he would share details of his next move at a later date, writing that he is “excited for what’s next” and will say more “shortly”.
For now, the immediate questions are who will take over the Budweiser marketing mandate in India, and whether the transition reshapes the brewer’s agency and campaign approach. Marketers and agency leaders will watch both closely.
