Freyr Energy has kicked off a phased teaser campaign called “Solar Ho, To Freyr Ho!” ahead of the reveal of its first brand ambassador. The rooftop solar company says the ambassador will be one of India’s top cricketers, with the official announcement expected soon. The campaign is the first ambassador association for the brand.
Why the teaser starts with a question
The company is deliberately withholding the identity of its ambassador. The campaign uses the line “Solar Ho, To Freyr Ho!” as a simple, rhythmic brand hook. The idea is to position Freyr Energy at the centre of the rooftop solar conversation and to encourage consumers to look beyond panels and installation when they evaluate a solar partner.
The rollout will happen in phases across Freyr Energy’s digital and social media platforms. Rajan Mahalingam, Head of Marketing, is leading the campaign, and the reveal is being treated as the central brand moment rather than a one-off announcement.
What Freyr Energy brings to the partnership
Freyr Energy was founded in 2014 and provides system design, installation, financing assistance and technology-enabled customer support. It currently operates 10 Solar Experience Centres across India. The company has built its business around simplifying rooftop solar, from consultation and design to installation and ongoing support.
Co-founder and Managing Director Saurabh Marda framed the move as the start of a wider visibility push. After a decade of building capability and trust, he said, the next phase is about taking the brand to a larger stage. Co-founder and Director Radhika Choudary added that rooftop solar is shifting from a category that needed considerable explanation to part of everyday conversations about homes, savings and energy independence.
Why this matters for marketers
A celebrity ambassador is common in fintech, FMCG and e-commerce, but less obvious in a utilitarian category such as rooftop solar. By pairing the brand with Indian cricket, Freyr Energy is borrowing cultural visibility to make a high-consideration purchase feel more familiar. The teaser strategy also turns the ambassador reveal into a reason to follow the brand before any product details change.
- Run a pre-reveal teaser to collect attention before the main announcement.
- Anchor the brand to a familiar cultural cue such as cricket for easier recall.
- Use a short, rhythmic line that the brand can own across social formats.
- Stagger the rollout in phases so the reveal becomes a sustained moment, not a single post.
Freyr Energy has not yet named the cricketer or shared media investment details. The reveal is expected soon across the company’s digital and social channels. For marketing teams, the campaign is a useful test case of whether a celebrity reveal can move a functional category closer to top-of-mind status.
