Jaipur-based Square Insurance Brokers Private Limited has appointed Kapil Baraya as Head of Department, Corporate & Commercial Lines. Alongside the core mandate, he will also oversee the company’s life insurance business — a dual remit that signals where the broker wants to grow next.
What the role covers
Baraya will lead the corporate and commercial lines vertical, manage key client relationships, drive business growth and build out the team, while simultaneously steering the life insurance side of the business.
He arrives with more than 18 years in corporate insurance, with a track record across corporate risk management, complex insurance programmes and customised solutions. His specialisms include liability, trade credit, cyber insurance and liability claims management.
Before Square Insurance Brokers, Baraya was Executive Vice President at Marsh India Insurance Brokers, working within the Sales Practice in Gujarat and handling large, complex insurance mandates across pharmaceuticals, manufacturing and BFSI. Earlier leadership stints include Bharti AXA, TATA AIG and ICICI Lombard, where he built experience in underwriting, client servicing and insurance programme design.
What the leadership said
Rakesh Kumar, MD and Founder, Square Insurance, said Baraya’s understanding of “evolving corporate risks and client needs” would strengthen the company’s corporate and commercial practice, and that the additional life insurance responsibility supports plans to build a broader offering for clients.
Akash Parwal, CEO and Co-Founder, described the hire as a reflection of the company’s intent to build a team that delivers “real depth and expertise” to clients, adding that the dual mandate aligns with ambitions in life insurance.
Baraya said he was joining at an “exciting stage” of the company’s growth, noting that corporate insurance is changing fast as businesses confront newer, more complex risks.
Why this matters for marketers
Senior hires in financial services rarely read like marketing news, but they usually are. A broker appointing a corporate lines head with cyber and trade credit expertise is effectively declaring a category focus — and category focus drives content, sales enablement and media spend downstream.
For anyone working on BFSI brands, or pitching for that business, a few things are worth noting:
- B2B insurance marketing is becoming risk-education marketing. Cyber, liability and trade credit are consultative sales; the winning content is explainer-led, not product-led.
- Dual general-plus-life mandates change the funnel. One leader across both suggests cross-sell journeys, shared CRM data and unified client communication rather than siloed campaigns.
- Regional brokers are scaling out of metros. A Jaipur-headquartered player building a corporate practice creates opportunities for agencies outside the Mumbai-Delhi-Bengaluru axis.
- Talent from global brokers travels with playbooks. Executives moving from Marsh, TATA AIG or ICICI Lombard into growth-stage firms typically import structured client-servicing and RFP processes — which raises the bar for agency partners.
The takeaway
Watch the marketing signals that follow hires like this: new vertical microsites, risk whitepapers, LinkedIn thought-leadership programmes and event sponsorships aimed at CFOs and risk heads. In insurance broking, distribution leadership and demand generation are increasingly the same conversation — and the appointment of a corporate lines head is often the first visible step in a larger go-to-market build.
