India’s legal fraternity got a new networking format this weekend. The inaugural Law Alumni Golf Championship 2026 (LAGC) brought together lawyers, judges and corporate counsel from 18 law schools and universities at Chandigarh Golf Club, in what organisers described as the country’s first inter-law-school alumni golf tournament.
The one-day event was organised by The Legal Fairways Foundation in association with DLF, and played in the Double Peoria Net format.
Who turned up
Alumni teams came from Punjab University, UILS, NLSIU, AIL, Symbiosis, Campus Law Centre (Delhi University), NLU Delhi, NLU Bhopal, NALSAR, GLC, NLU Jodhpur, Himachal Pradesh University, Amity Delhi, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, OP Jindal, APS-MP, Kurukshetra University and Punjabi University, Patiala.
Campus Law Centre, Delhi University swept the team standings — its Team 2 (Ankush Das, Inderbir Singh Alag, Ravi Nanda and Mrinal Bharti) took the winners’ trophy, while Team 1 (J P Sengh, Sudhanshu Batra, Harkirat Sawhney and Sitesh Mukherjee) finished first runner-up. NLU Delhi, represented by Dhruv Gupta, Keerat Dhillon, Akal Brar and Precious Kelson, was second runner-up.
In the Judges Individual Category (Gross), Justice Alok Jain won with 81, ahead of Justice B S Walia (82) and Justice P S Chauhan (83). Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal topped the Net category, followed by Justice Mahesh Grover and Justice Arun Monga.
Among lawyers, Arjun Singh Rai of UILS Chandigarh Team 1 won the Gross category with 75, edging teammate Jaiveer Sandhu on a better Back 9 (36 to 40). Karambir Singh Kharbanda of OP Jindal was third with 78. Vidushpat Singhania of GLC Bombay won the Net category with 65, ahead of NALSAR’s Nishant Prasad (66) and NLU Delhi’s Akal Brar (67).
What the organisers said
Amardeep Singh Sukhija, President of The Legal Fairways Foundation, said the championship was conceived as a platform to build “sportsmanship, camaraderie and lifelong professional relationships” within the legal community outside the courtroom.
Vice President Tarun Vir Singh Lehal called the response to the first edition “extremely encouraging”, adding that the ambition is to grow LAGC into a larger, more inclusive national event.
Why marketers should care
On the surface this is a sports story. For brand teams, it is a small but instructive case in affinity marketing — building presence inside a tightly defined professional community rather than buying reach against a broad demographic.
Golf has long been the default format for high-net-worth and B2B relationship building in India, from real estate to private banking to luxury autos. What LAGC adds is a second filter: profession plus alma mater. That combination produces a room where almost every attendee is a decision-maker, an influencer of decisions, or a future one — and where the alumni rivalry does the engagement work for you.
DLF’s association is a logical fit. Real estate developers have historically used golf as an owned channel; the Chandigarh–Delhi NCR legal corridor overlaps neatly with premium residential and commercial buyer profiles.
A quick checklist for niche event sponsorship
- Density over reach. A 100-person field of judges and senior counsel can outperform a six-figure impression buy on business outcomes.
- Get in at edition one. Founding-partner status is cheaper and stickier than joining a proven property later.
- Design for the downtime. In golf, the value sits in the four hours of conversation, not the trophy photo. Plan hospitality accordingly.
- Build a content tail. Leaderboards, alumni rivalries and profiles give you weeks of owned social content from a single day.
- Commit to multi-year. Community properties compound; one-off logo placement rarely converts.
The Legal Fairways Foundation’s office bearers include Sukhija as President, Lehal as Vice President, Gurmandeep Singh Sullar as Secretary and Deepak Bhardwaj as Treasurer. If edition two scales as promised, expect more category sponsors — legal tech, wealth management and premium mobility — to look at the fairway as a media buy.
