Racold’s #BetterServiceThanSorry Turns Service Into a Campaign

Racold's #BetterServiceThanSorry campaign uses four AI-led films to push preventive water heater care, plus a Rs 290 health check offer. Here's why it matters.

Racold, the water heating brand from Ariston Group, has rolled out a digital campaign built on an unusual idea for the appliance category: don’t sell the product, sell the servicing.

Titled #BetterServiceThanSorry – Caring Beyond Service, the campaign is anchored in the line “Have You Looked Up?” — a nudge to consumers who rarely think about the geyser mounted above them until it stops working. It is also Racold’s first AI-led film campaign, comprising four AI-generated videos set in everyday moments where water heater upkeep quietly slips through the cracks.

What the campaign actually does

The films focus on three pillars of appliance care: safety, heating performance and energy efficiency. The narrative pushes consumers to spot small warning signs before they turn into breakdowns — or worse, safety incidents.

Crucially, the creative is attached to a concrete service offer rather than floating as pure brand messaging. Racold’s authorised service experts are offering a Water Heater Health Check covering:

  • Electrical safety
  • Heating performance
  • Energy efficiency
  • Leakage checks
  • Scale build-up

The technicians then recommend maintenance or component replacement where needed. The preventive service visit is priced at Rs 290, with 25% off on recommended spares and consumables.

Mohit Narula, Managing Director, Ariston Group India, said water heater care is “often considered only when there is a problem,” adding that the brand’s responsibility goes past selling the product to helping consumers care for it better. The campaign sits under Racold’s broader “Your Comfort Your Way” philosophy.

Why service marketing is having a moment

Durables marketing in India has historically been front-loaded — festive discounts, exchange offers, celebrity endorsements at the point of purchase. Everything after the invoice was treated as a cost centre, not a communication opportunity.

That is changing for three reasons. First, service is now a high-margin, high-frequency revenue stream in a category where replacement cycles run long. Second, service interactions generate first-party data — installation dates, usage patterns, component wear — that feed directly into CRM-led upgrade and cross-sell campaigns. Third, in a low-differentiation category, reliability is one of the few claims a brand can dramatize credibly.

Racold, with more than six decades in the category, is leaning on exactly that heritage. The message is essentially: we know what goes wrong, and we’d rather you didn’t find out the hard way.

The AI film angle

The use of AI-generated films is notable less for novelty and more for economics. Four films depicting mundane domestic scenarios — the kind of scenario-based content that would traditionally require multiple shoot days, locations and casting — can now be produced at a fraction of the cost and timeline. For a service campaign that needs volume and variation rather than one hero film, that trade-off makes sense.

Expect more mid-funnel and service-led communication to go this route in Indian durables and FMCG. The premium hero film survives; the utility content around it increasingly does not need a camera.

Three takeaways for marketers

1. Tie the creative to a transaction. A hashtag that ends in an unpriced idea is a brand campaign. A hashtag that ends in a Rs 290 booking is a performance campaign wearing brand clothes. The Health Check gives Racold a measurable conversion event.

2. Reframe the category problem, not the product. “Have You Looked Up?” works because it names a behavioural blind spot rather than a product feature. Ownership-behaviour framing travels further than spec sheets.

3. Treat AI as a volume tool first. The strongest early use cases are not replacing flagship films — they are producing the ten variations you previously couldn’t afford to make.

What to watch

The real test for #BetterServiceThanSorry is whether preventive bookings hold up after the campaign window closes. Service-led campaigns work when they build a habit; they fail when they behave like a discount blip. Racold has the pricing and the distribution muscle to find out.
