Bealls is moving its in-store discovery story onto the national advertising stage. The Bradenton, Florida-based off-price retailer has introduced its first national brand platform, “For the Haul of It,” just as the holiday shopping calendar begins to heat up.

The campaign leans into an emotion that off-price chains have long used at the shelf: the treasure hunt. Rather than telling shoppers which designer or brand names they might find, the ads focus on the fun and surprise of uncovering those labels in the aisles. It is a deliberate choice that keeps the mystique of off-price retail intact while making the experience itself the hero.

A flexible platform, not a one-off ad

According to Bealls, the campaign features an eclectic, multi-generational cast and is designed to evolve rather than disappear after a single flight. In November, the platform shifts into a holiday expression called “Happy Haul-idays,” built around a sing-along inspired by “Jingle Bells” and a playful nod to the store’s “bells” pronunciation.

  • Retail base: Bealls operates more than 650 stores across 23 states under the Bealls, Home Centric and Bealls Florida names.
  • Market position: The company describes itself as the fourth-largest off-price retailer in the country.
  • Campaign extension: “Happy Haul-idays” arrives in November with a seasonal sing-along.
  • Digital tie-in: A new mobile app will focus on loyalty, customer acquisition and connection.

Why the national push matters

For an off-price retailer, national advertising is a meaningful shift. These brands often win through local word of mouth, in-store merchandising and the regular return of bargain-hunting shoppers. A national platform signals that Bealls wants to build recognition before it enters new markets, not after the stores are already open.

Leana Less, senior vice president of marketing, framed the campaign as a visibility play. “For the Haul of It is designed to make the Bealls brand more visible, more memorable and more relevant,” she said. Less added that marketing “creates the reason to come” while stores “create the reason to return.”

The retention layer

Alongside the brand push, Bealls is introducing a mobile app aimed at loyalty, acquisition and connection. That matters because a broad awareness campaign is expensive if it only drives a single visit. The app gives the retailer a way to capture interest, understand shopper behaviour and turn holiday footfall into repeat purchasing.

What marketers can take from it

The lesson is not that every brand needs a jingle. It is that a durable brand platform can handle both broad awareness and a seasonal sales window. Bealls is pairing an emotional message with a practical app, which gives the campaign a measurement path beyond impressions. If the “treasure hunt” idea resonates, expect more retailers to use discovery as a differentiator against pure e-commerce convenience.
