The Indian Football League (IFL) is taking a multi-screen route into its second season. For the 2026-27 competition, the league has brought in Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) and DD Sports as broadcast and streaming partners, putting every match across television and digital platforms.
The deal expands the league’s distribution after an inaugural season that recorded 17.56 million television viewers, and it arrives as Indian domestic football tries to convert that interest into a longer watch habit.
Where fans can watch
The broadcast map breaks into two layers:
- Television: DD Sports will telecast all matches live, while Unite8 Sports will carry selected fixtures as an additional TV destination.
- Digital: Every match will be streamed live on Z5, WAVES, Prasar Bharati’s OTT platform, and the official Unite8 Sports YouTube channel.
For the league, the structure is a practical reach play: public broadcaster DD Sports supplies nationwide linear coverage, while ZEEL’s digital properties and YouTube lower the barrier for younger and mobile-first audiences.
Why multi-platform matters now
The IFL is betting that availability, not scarcity, builds a domestic football audience. Nildeep Mondal, CEO of the Indian Football League, framed the partnership as making the league “more accessible to audiences across India.”
That argument carries weight because the first season gave the league a reference point. Larsing LD Sawyan, Managing Director of Shillong Lajong FC, said the inaugural IFL clocked 1.6 times higher viewership than the ISL, a comparison league insiders are using to argue that club-led domestic football has headroom.
For marketing professionals, this is a reminder that sports distribution is now a portfolio decision rather than a single-broadcaster bet. Linear TV supplies reach; OTT and YouTube add frequency, discovery and measurable engagement.
The season ahead
The 2026-27 campaign opens on October 30 with Real Kashmir FC taking on debutants Nagaland United SC at TRC Stadium in Srinagar at 6:30 PM IST. The competition runs until March 20, 2027.
Eleven clubs will play a full home-and-away round-robin format, which works out to 20 league matches per club. New entrants Nagaland United SC and Samaleswari Sporting Club widen the league’s geographical footprint.
Bavesh Janavlekar, Chief Business Officer, Zee Sports Network, called the association a “long-term commitment” and said Z5 and Unite8 Sports would take the IFL “to football lovers across the country.”
What to watch for
If the platform mix delivers stronger viewership, expect regional sponsors and digitally native brands to become more active around club rivalries. The immediate test will be whether the league can sustain audience flow across a five-month season, not just the opening fixture.
