Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) closed the second quarter of FY27 with its streaming and linear businesses leaning on each other: overall operating revenue rose 13% year-on-year to Rs. 2,224.6 crore, and ZEE5 crossed its best-ever quarterly revenue by doubling year-on-year.
ZEE5 converts a multilingual slate into a record quarter
The streaming service posted Rs. 626 crore in revenue for the quarter, a 101% jump over the previous year, while improving profitability. The quarter’s rollout included 34 shows and films, nine of them originals, across a multilingual slate designed to widen engagement.
That shift has tangible value for media planners. Subscription revenue across Zee’s linear and digital businesses grew 30% year-on-year, helped by higher ARPU, more digital subscribers and linear price increases. Advertising revenue rose 20% sequentially even as geopolitical concerns kept overall market sentiment cautious.
Linear TV and marquee sports add reach
Zee’s television network clocked a 20% network share as of Week 24, its highest in seven years, according to BARC data. New fiction and non-fiction titles, including the long-running Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and the newly announced Jeena Issi Ka Naam Hain, supported the visibility.
FIFA World Cup 2026 gave the sports business a strong opening. The tournament generated a total reach of more than 400 million across live and non-live consumption and collected roughly 50 billion watch minutes. Zee sees this as the foundation for Unite8 Sports and for further ZEE5 audience growth.
- Overall operating revenue: Rs. 2,224.6 crore, up 13% year-on-year.
- ZEE5 revenue: Rs. 626 crore, up 101% year-on-year and a record quarter.
- Subscription revenue: up 30% year-on-year; advertising revenue up 20% sequentially.
- Linear network share: 20%, a seven-year high; FIFA World Cup reach: 400 million-plus.
Zee Music extends the digital flywheel
Zee Music Company passed 179 million YouTube subscribers and logged more than 59 billion video views in the quarter while staying profitable. Its catalogue expansion across languages gives Zee another top-of-funnel surface to bundle with TV and OTT for advertisers.
What this means for marketing teams
The results offer a practical read: regional OTT is no longer an experimental line item. When a platform doubles revenue on the back of 34 releases and marquee sports, campaign windows around content drops and tournament spikes become planning signals, not just bonus inventory.
The framework Zee’s quarter illustrates is straightforward: content builds engagement, engagement attracts subscribers, and subscribers justify premium ad rates. The missing proof point is durability – whether this momentum converts into pricing power beyond one-off events. For now, the numbers give advertisers a reason to test multilingual, sports-led media mixes earlier in their planning cycles.
