A promotion built on product and brand
Tata Starbucks India has promoted Mitali Maheshwari to Director, Product & Marketing. She joined the café chain in April 2024 as Head, Product & Marketing, and the elevation recognises her work across both product and marketing functions since then.
In the expanded role, Maheshwari continues to lead product strategy, portfolio development and marketing. The mandate also sharpens the focus on brand engagement and consumer experiences in India’s changing coffee market.
A résumé shaped by Red Bull
Maheshwari arrived with more than ten years at Red Bull, where she held several brand and marketing leadership positions and finished as Head of Brand Marketing. Her time there covered brand management, consumer engagement and marketing strategy, and she helped build and position the energy drink in India. Before that, she spent over a year and a half at DDB Mudra Group, which gave her a foundation in advertising and communications.
That background matters for a café chain. Energy-drink marketing often runs on occasion, lifestyle and ritual, and coffee brands compete on similar territory. Moving from a challenger energy brand to a global café player gives Maheshwari a wide view of consumer behaviour, brand positioning and product development.
What the role covers
- Product strategy and portfolio development
- Marketing and brand engagement
- Consumer experiences in India’s café segment
Why the move matters
Starbucks is building its presence in India’s competitive café market at a time when consumer tastes are shifting and premium coffee is drawing more interest. Product innovation and distinctive brand engagement are becoming the real battleground for organised café chains.
The promotion also signals leadership continuity. By keeping product and marketing under one director, Tata Starbucks is placing a bet on product-led marketing, where the offer itself shapes the customer relationship and communications amplify the experience.
What marketers can take away
The useful lesson is to close the gap between what a product delivers and what a campaign promises. A unified product-marketing remit can keep messaging grounded in the actual consumer experience. If your category is becoming more premium, watch how product innovation and brand engagement work together instead of treating them as separate tracks. Three signals to follow from here will be menu innovation, localised product positioning and how prominently brand experience shows up in campaigns.
