Bata India has promoted Jasleen Kaur G to head of marketing, handing her the top brand role at a company that sells footwear and lifestyle labels across value and premium segments. Kaur has led category marketing and public relations at Bata India since October 2024, and her new role appears on her profile from October 2026.
She announced the change in a LinkedIn post and now oversees marketing for a portfolio that includes Bata, Hush Puppies, Scholl, Bubble Gummers, Nine West, Power, Floatz and North Star. That is a wide brief: one house, several distinct consumer positions.
From category lead to portfolio owner
The jump from category marketing to head of marketing matters because it shifts the focus from managing product lines to setting brand strategy across the entire business. Kaur’s earlier work at Bata India already touched brand management and public relations for multiple labels.
Before Bata, she built experience in different retail categories. At Reliance Brands, she handled marketing and PR for Hugo Boss, Mothercare and Hamleys in India. At Benetton Group, she spent more than seven years in marketing, PR and sustainability roles across India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Myanmar, working on campaigns such as #UnitedByChange, #UnitedByHer and #UnitedByPlay.
She also ran her own venture, Indiawood Global, for nearly two years, and began her career in digital marketing and PR at Canon India.
Why a portfolio lens matters
Bata India’s challenge is not just selling shoes. It is keeping each brand’s positioning sharp so value customers, premium shoppers, kids and performance buyers all see a clear reason to choose one label over another. That requires a portfolio approach rather than brand-by-brand execution.
Here are the labels now under one marketing mandate:
- Bata and Power: mass-market and performance footwear with wide retail reach.
- Hush Puppies, Scholl and Floatz: comfort, wellness and casual premium positioning.
- Bubble Gummers: children’s footwear.
- Nine West and North Star: fashion and youth-focused lifestyle labels.
Kaur’s background across electronics, fashion, luxury, toys and footwear gives her a rare cross-category view. The immediate job will be steering brand positioning and communications for these labels without letting their messages blur.
What to watch
The promotion also signals continuity. Instead of hiring an outside marketer, Bata India has backed someone who already knows the portfolio. That can shorten the learning curve, but it also raises the stakes for fresh thinking on digital and retail integration.
For marketing professionals, this is a reminder that a broad brand portfolio needs deliberate architecture. Each label should have a clearly defined customer, price role and channel job, and marketing teams should measure whether campaigns reinforce those distinct positions rather than generic awareness.
If Bata India can sharpen its portfolio under one marketing owner, the appointment may matter more than a routine leadership change.
