Arun Varghese, WPP Media’s national head for emerging tech and experiential marketing, has stepped down after a decade with the organisation. The move closes a ten-year leadership chapter at the intersection of live experiences and new technology.
He announced the departure on LinkedIn, reflecting on the professional growth, relationships and experiences that shaped his tenure. In the post, Varghese called WPP “a second home” and said it gave him “the nerve to do whatever it takes.”
A career built across brand experiences
Varghese joined WPP Media in 2016. Before that, he worked with The 360 ARC, Edelman Cream India and Arena Sports BVI, a 360 ARC venture. He began his career in 2008 as a business development executive at The 360 ARC.
His experience spans event management, event marketing, experiential marketing, relationship marketing, public relations, brand management, integrated marketing, business development and advertising. He has also worked across marketing strategy, trade marketing, brand activation and sales planning.
At WPP Media, he most recently led the emerging technology and experiential marketing function at the national level—a remit that sits where brand activation, immersive formats and new technology meet.
Why this exit matters
Senior exits in emerging tech and experiential marketing get noticed because this layer of marketing is still maturing. Budgets are shifting toward immersive formats, and client confidence often depends on the person who can connect creative ambition to execution. When a national lead departs, agencies face three immediate questions: continuity for existing clients, institutional knowledge about what has worked, and the strength of the replacement pipeline.
For client-side marketers, the signal is simpler: ask your agency who owns the relationship and how the transition will be managed. A handover note is not a strategy.
What teams can do now
- Map key client relationships to more than one senior owner before a departure becomes public.
- Capture case studies, budgets, vendor contacts and proof-of-concept learnings in a shared system.
- Use the transition to reposition the emerging-tech and experiential offer, not just replace the role.
Varghese has not announced a next move. For now, the departure marks the end of a decade-long chapter at WPP Media and opens a question about who will steer its emerging-tech and experiential practice next.
