A bigger brief for product and marketing
Tata Starbucks India has elevated Mitali Maheshwari to Director – Product & Marketing. She announced the move on LinkedIn, describing the role as a chance to drive product innovation, marketing initiatives and consumer experiences at the coffee chain.
Maheshwari joined Tata Starbucks in April 2024 as Head – Product & Marketing, leading the product, portfolio and marketing organisation. Her mandate has been to blend Starbucks’ global heritage with India’s diverse regional preferences, make the brand more accessible, and retain its aspirational appeal while contributing to the growth of India’s coffee culture.
From Red Bull to the coffee aisle
Before joining Starbucks, Maheshwari spent more than a decade at Red Bull, including time as Head of Brand Marketing. She began her advertising career in 2012 as a Senior Account Executive at DDB Mudra Group. That mix of retail, FMCG and advertising experience anchors her focus: turning consumer insight into commercial outcomes.
“I’ve always believed that great marketing goes beyond building brands. It’s about understanding people, anticipating their needs and creating things that earn a place in their lives,” Maheshwari said.
Why it matters for marketing professionals
The promotion fits a wider shift on the brand side: product strategy and marketing are converging. For a coffee chain expanding in a fragmented market, one national menu and one national story may not be enough. Tata Starbucks appears to be betting that regional product thinking and consistent brand storytelling can grow together.
This is product marketing in action. It requires marketers to understand regional palates, shape portfolios, build brand stories that travel, and measure both brand health and business impact.
What marketers can borrow
- Segment for “the many Indias within India” — use regional taste and culture to shape product decisions, not just campaigns.
- Keep the global brand aspirational while making local offerings accessible.
- Link consumer insight to both brand outcomes and commercial results.
The bigger picture
Maheshwari’s path — advertising account management to brand leadership to product-and-marketing ownership — is a useful reference for professionals building dual skill sets. As Tata Starbucks continues to grow, expect product innovation and regional storytelling to become even more central to its marketing strategy.
