India’s festive-quarter hiring outlook has a clear front-runner for entry-level marketing roles: programmatic advertising. TeamLease EdTech’s Career Outlook Report for HY2 (July–December 2026) puts the Programmatic Advertising Associate at the top of Delhi’s fresher hiring list, with 50% of surveyed employers indicating they plan to hire for the role. Programmatic advertising—the automated, data-driven buying of digital ad space—is the capability behind that demand.
City-level demand splits by specialisation
Mumbai tells a similar but distinct story. Digital Marketing Executive leads there at 48%. Both positions also feature among the five most in-demand fresher roles nationally, which means digital-first capabilities are no longer a differentiator at entry level—they are the baseline.
Sector intent cools while overall hiring improves
The Marketing & Advertising sector recorded 59% fresher hiring intent for HY2 2026, a moderation from 62% in HY1 2026. At the same time, overall fresher hiring intent across India rose to 75% from 73%. The reading is nuanced: companies are still adding first-time hires, but they are becoming more selective inside marketing, favouring candidates who can contribute to measurable campaign execution.
What recruiters are actually screening for
Employers are looking beyond degrees. The report highlights practical skills that show up in hiring conversations:
- Campaign optimisation and audience targeting
- Media planning and search marketing
- Ad performance analytics and data-driven decision-making
To strengthen employability, TeamLease EdTech points to industry-aligned certifications such as Advanced Certification in Digital Marketing and Analytics, with Performance Marketing Analytics as a relevant domain skill. Related learning areas—digital marketing, brand management and product analytics—round out the skill set expected of fresher hires.
What this means for freshers and marketing teams
For students and early-career professionals, the implication is clear: close the gap between coursework and platform fluency. Hands-on exposure to ad platforms, campaign dashboards and analytics tools can turn a 48% or 50% intent figure into an interview call.
For marketing teams, the data signals a shift toward hiring specialised entry-level operators—people who can manage programmatic campaigns, track performance and optimise spend—rather than generalist assistants. Teams planning entry-level roles should write job descriptions around those capabilities, not vague marketing support duties.
The report is based on responses from 1,097 companies collected between May and July 2026 across industries and cities in India.
