The Lxme Indian Women’s League (IWL) and Capri Sports have launched Built to Shine, a photoseries that puts women footballers in a fashion-led frame. One player from each Lxme IWL club appears in the campaign, styled with crystal-studded footballs, pearl necklaces, statement jewellery and bold fashion pieces alongside their jerseys and boots.

The imagery is deliberately glossy. The campaign’s stated focus, however, is not glamour but recognition: the strength, determination and unseen years of work behind each player’s place in the league.

What the campaign actually does

Built to Shine pairs the physicality of football with the visual language of fashion. The creative presents strength and style as complementary identities rather than opposites, challenging conventional portrayals of women footballers and celebrating achievements on and off the field.

Because one player represents each club, the format is equitable and repeatable. It creates a content system that can extend into follow-up stories without needing a new central idea each time.

Why the framing matters

Women’s sport in India continues to fight a recognition gap. The campaign notes that despite the growing presence of Indian women’s football, athletes still navigate several challenges while attempting to establish themselves. In that context, visibility is not a feel-good goal; it is a commercial objective.

“They don’t need the spotlight to shine; the spotlight needs to find them,” said Jinisha Sharma, Director and Promoter, Capri Sports.

That line reframes the campaign as distribution of attention. The athletes have already done the hard work and earned their place; the marketing task is to make the audience catch up.

The longer commercial play

The photoseries does not sit in isolation. It aligns with Capri Sports’ 15-year partnership with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for the commercial development and marketing rights of the Lxme IWL and IWL 2.

That is the strategic difference between a one-off shoot and a visibility programme. A long rights window lets Capri Sports strengthen league identity, expand reach and build repeat opportunities for women footballers to be seen. The campaign becomes an asset that compounds, not a single activation.

What marketers can take from it

  • Anchor style in substance. The jewellery and styling are the hook; training, discipline and resilience are the story.
  • Use a one-player-per-team format. It ensures representation and turns the idea into a repeatable series.
  • Tie creative to a longer partnership. Built to Shine matters more because it reinforces a 15-year rights arrangement.

The watch-out

Fashion-sport crossovers can drift into turning athletes into models. Built to Shine avoids that by keeping performance and recognition at the centre of the narrative. For brands, the test is whether the styling widens the audience for the sport or simply borrows sporting credibility for aesthetics. The campaign’s own emphasis on effort, discipline and earned place is what keeps it grounded.
