The launch
Swiggy Instamart has released a new Diwali brand film that uses visual humour to push its festive décor assortment. The film was conceptualised and executed by the brand’s in-house team, Afaqs! reports, and it is running as part of the quick-commerce platform’s Diwali campaign.
The story follows a couple returning home after a late-night Diwali party. What starts as a simple call to end the night turns odd when the husband appears wearing a crystal chandelier as an outfit and seems to be running on low battery. The film closes with an Instamart delivery and the line, “Diwali decor and more, only on Instamart.”
What the film says and how
The humour comes from the contrast between the strange visual and the couple’s matter-of-fact conversation. The characters treat the chandelier outfit as an ordinary late-night inconvenience, which lets the joke land without the film explaining it.
The treatment is deliberately restrained. Instead of the usual decorated homes, diyas and festive gatherings, Instamart keeps the visual language spare. The product message arrives only at the close, when the delivery appears and the tagline ties the gag back to the platform’s broader festive range.
What the brand and agency say about it
Mayur Hola, VP – Brand, Swiggy, said the brand wanted to avoid the familiar Diwali template.
“Most Diwali films show lit-up homes and family moments. We wanted to do something different this time, so we kept the décor at the centre and let the humour do the rest. A man wearing a chandelier is silly, but it makes people look at the category. Diwali shopping is never just one thing, so we’re letting people know that décor and the rest of the festive list are all on Instamart. Just maybe not as an outfit.”
The agency is not named separately because the film came from the in-house team.
The category context
Diwali is one of the noisiest periods for Indian advertising, and most festive work still leans on warm family moments, lit homes and traditional décor. Instamart is betting that a quieter, absurdist visual can cut through that clutter while keeping the product range at the centre of the message.
The platform’s Diwali assortment spans more than showpieces. It includes:
- Linen and furnishings
- Home décor
- Cleaning supplies
- Electronics and home appliances
- Beauty and personal care hampers
By placing décor alongside these functional categories, Instamart frames Diwali shopping as a mixed basket rather than a single-item mission.
What to watch next
Watch whether Instamart extends the chandelier idea into follow-up placements across social and app surfaces, and whether other quick-commerce brands respond with similarly restrained festive humour. The real test will be whether the gag makes the décor range feel easier to find and add at the moment of ordering.
