Salesforce has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Listen Labs, an AI-powered customer research platform that automates recruiting, interviews and analysis, the companies said late Tuesday. The move puts qualitative customer insight directly inside Salesforce’s CRM and AI agent ecosystem.
What Listen Labs brings
Listen Labs was founded in 2023 by Alfred Wahlforss and Florian Juengermann. Its platform designs research, recruits participants, conducts AI interviews and analyzes responses. Salesforce says the startup has a participant network of more than 50 million people and can run interviews in more than 120 languages.
Wahlforss said the product began as an AI interviewer after an app the founders built picked up 20,000 users and they wanted to learn who those users were.
What started as an AI interviewer is now a full platform for understanding customers.
The reported price is around $2 billion, though Salesforce did not disclose terms. The transaction is expected to close in Salesforce’s fiscal fourth quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approval and other customary conditions.
Why it matters for marketing teams
Marketers often get qualitative research in decks and reports, separate from the customer data inside marketing and service platforms. With Listen Labs, that research can sit closer to Marketing Cloud and Service Cloud. In theory, a brand could spot a segment in CRM, run AI-moderated interviews to understand it, and feed those insights back into campaigns, journeys and service workflows.
The more novel piece is digital twins. Listen Labs builds AI simulations grounded in customer behavior, letting companies test how people might react to products, messaging or ideas before running further human research.
- Customer interviews and analysis move into CRM-native workflows.
- Marketing Cloud and Service Cloud gain a qualitative context layer.
- AI agents could use research signals when recommending actions.
The evidence gap marketers must watch
There is an important difference between actual interviews and simulated behavior. Interviews record what recruited participants say; digital twins estimate what customers might do. If Salesforce eventually feeds both signals into agent recommendations, marketers need to know which evidence type is behind a suggestion.
Salesforce has not yet detailed how Listen Labs will be integrated, or which agent workflows will use its data. Listen Labs will join Salesforce AI Labs, with Wahlforss staying as CEO and Juengermann staying as CTO.
The deal signals a bigger shift: customer research is becoming a live data source for the systems that make customer decisions, rather than a one-off project. For marketing teams, that could make continuous learning part of the daily workflow — provided they keep a clear line between what customers said and what a model predicted.
