Axis Max Life Insurance has begun advertising on ChatGPT Ads in India through HiveMinds, part of Madison World. The campaign makes the insurer one of the early life insurance brands in the country to buy sponsored placements that sit alongside ChatGPT’s AI-generated responses.

The brand is treating this as an addition, not a replacement. ChatGPT activity will run alongside existing search, social and performance marketing, creating a wider set of digital touchpoints.

Why a life insurer is testing ChatGPT now

Life insurance is a considered purchase. Before choosing a policy, consumers usually compare coverage, benefits, premiums and claim settlement records. ChatGPT Ads allows the insurer to appear at the moment those questions are being asked, rather than relying only on later retargeting.

Sameer Jain, head of Commerce & D2C at Axis Max Life Insurance, said: “Insurance decisions begin with understanding, and consumers today are exploring new ways to find answers to their financial questions.” For the brand, being present in that research conversation is the central bet.

What early consumer signals show

The company says initial responses indicate that people are using AI conversations to think through practical factors before committing to coverage. In particular, consumers are exploring:

  • Their profession and number of working years
  • Family size and financial priorities
  • How much coverage they may need

No detailed performance numbers have been shared yet, but Axis Max Life describes the early response as encouraging and believes conversational AI can play a meaningful role in how consumers discover and evaluate life insurance.

HiveMinds’ full-funnel bet

HiveMinds is handling strategy, planning, activation and optimisation. Deepti Bhadauria, CEO & Partner at HiveMinds, said: “For categories with long purchase journeys and large-scale personalization, Conversational AI can be the new differentiator.” The agency’s focus is on turning this placement into measurable business impact within a full-funnel media strategy.

What this means for marketing teams

The test matters beyond insurance. Categories with long decision cycles, such as education, loans, property or B2B software, often struggle to reach consumers when they are still comparing options. If ChatGPT Ads scale, they could become a research-stage channel that sits between search ads and content marketing.

The framework is simple: treat AI chat placements as an assisted-conversion channel. They may not close the sale, but they can put a brand into the shortlist conversation. That makes measurement less about click-throughs and more about downstream brand recall and application starts.

The next marker to watch

The real test is not whether ChatGPT Ads can generate awareness, but whether it can influence a choice made days or weeks later. If Axis Max Life reports strong assisted conversions, expect more insurers and high-consideration brands to follow quickly. For now, this is an early but deliberate step toward advertising inside conversational AI.
