Netflix has trimmed its 2026 advertising revenue forecast to $2.7 billion, down from the $3 billion target it set earlier this year. The company cited a “slightly slower than expected rollout of some ad product capabilities” in its shareholder letter.
The numbers behind the reset
The revision landed alongside a broadly healthy quarter. Netflix reported Q3 revenue of $12.9 billion, up 12% year over year, and said it expects full-year revenue of $51.1 billion, a 13% gain. The earlier $3 billion ad target would have doubled the company’s ad revenue year over year.
Netflix did not identify which capabilities slipped. On the earnings call, co-CEO Greg Peters framed the delay as a natural consequence of an ambitious roadmap.
“If you are sufficiently aggressive with your roadmap, you’re going to occasionally be behind some milestones.” — Greg Peters
Peters added that the ads business is still expected to grow more than 80% this year. “We strongly believe that a modest short-term hit for a better long-term strategic position is a good ultimate trade-off,” he said.
The ad product roadmap is still moving
On the same day, Nicolle Pangis, VP of U.S. and Canada advertising at Netflix, announced a set of updates that show where the platform is investing:
- Programmatic buying: Netflix’s Ad-Suite is expanding audience capabilities beyond Yahoo DSP and Amazon DSP to include The Trade Desk audiences.
- Measurement: An enhanced Conversion API and a new Netflix Pixel will give advertisers access to more than 20 lower-funnel conversion events.
Why this matters for your media plan
For marketers, the guidance cut is less about advertiser demand and more about plumbing. Programmatic integrations and privacy-safe measurement take time; Netflix appears to be choosing a durable build-out over rushing features to hit a near-term number.
That distinction matters for CTV buyers. Lower-funnel conversion events make streaming campaigns easier to evaluate against performance channels such as search and social. Adding The Trade Desk also puts Netflix inventory inside a demand-side platform many agencies already use.
The takeaway for 2027 planning: watch for partner integrations to mature, and start testing Netflix’s new measurement events before committing budget. The reset is a short-term story; the ad stack is the longer one.
