Pratilipi’s in-house studio Double Tap Films is putting vertical microdramas on Flipkart, adding 30 titles to the e-commerce app under a 12-month India-only agreement. The two companies also have a non-binding understanding to expand the slate based on viewership data.
What the deal includes
This is Double Tap Films’ first tie-up with an Indian e-commerce app. The studio says the initial batch makes it the largest microdrama catalogue currently available on Flipkart.
The Flipkart partnership sits within a two-track distribution strategy. In May 2026, Double Tap Films licensed 150 original microdrama titles to TikTok for audiences in the US, Canada, Brazil and Japan. In late August 2026, it signed an agreement with Mohalla Tech—parent of ShareChat, Moj and QuickTV—to adapt more than 75 Pratilipi stories into microdramas. Double Tap Films has also produced The Misfits, its first branded original series, exclusively for ShareChat and Moj.
Retention is the real product
For Flipkart, the microdrama catalogue is less about entering streaming and more about giving shoppers a reason to reopen the app between purchases.
Sharlton Menezes, Vice President, IP and Strategic Partnerships at Double Tap Films and Pratilipi, described the exchange as reach for engagement. He said, “Reacquisition is one of the hardest problems in e-commerce, and a story a viewer wants to finish is one of the most reliable ways to solve it.”
That framing matters for marketing teams. Commerce apps are experimenting with attention-holding inventory, which could create new placements for branded microdramas, sponsorships and contextual storytelling alongside the shopping journey.
What marketing teams should watch
- Completion and repeat-session data: if Flipkart shares these metrics, they will show whether serialised content drives reacquisition.
- Branded microdrama opportunities: watch for pilot formats, product placement or sponsored episodes as the catalogue expands.
- Creative fit by platform: a microdrama built for TikTok, ShareChat or Flipkart may need different hooks, lengths and calls to action because audience intent differs.
For content owners, the broader signal is distribution diversification: the same story format is being placed across TikTok, ShareChat, Moj and Flipkart, each with a different attention moment. The useful marketing question is not which platform is best, but which platform matches the moment when a viewer is most likely to keep watching.
